breaking news
This is reporter Kevin here with an update on soccer. Today is Saturday, September 7th, 2024, aka the first soccer game of the fall season, aka Natick Days.
Both twins had games today, Mei in the morning at Acton, Di in the afternoon at home. I am an assistant coach for Mei’s team, the lightening sloths, so I will provide a more detailed breakdown.
We had 11 girls show up today, leaving us with only 2 subs on a hot day. I am in charge of lineups and sub patterns and tried to get each girl a break per half, in the 2nd half two girls had to go the whole way as the ref didn’t let us sub.
The team is stout on defense, led by Lily at centerback, an instinctive defender who can cover for teammates. Molly is the other mainstay in the defensive half and she is really hitting her stride this year, I played Molly at center back when Lily took a break.
We are seeking the right combo of creators for offense. We saw good things from a few girls today, some naturally and instinctively like attacking and we will explore that. Mei, known to the team as Claire Claire Yang, did a good job today, mostly in midfield but also spending time at striker and defense.
We ended up losing 1-0 because the girls thought play had stopped when it hadn’t. But this was a good effort from everyone, we had 4 players who didn’t play last season, they all contributed and will only get better from here. I think the girls had fun today and in practice, and the atmosphere of the team is improved from last season. I will have to miss next weeks game because mommy booked my flight to Chicago with Ally.
I drove Molly and Claire home in the new car, they proceeded to demonstrate a new found talent, farting with their mouth. Mei is able to make “super long fart” and Molly can do “explosive diarrhea fart”. They also made the car dirty with their soccer dirt. We eventually went to Natick days and spent time there.
Ally went to Natick days as part of the model UN booth. She brought 4 cakes down, 2 for herself and 2 for Angelica, this is as some scheme to get donations.
Finally I went to Di soccer game, this was an incredible tranformation. Di team won 4-0 and it could have been worse. A new player, Luis, scored all of the goals and is probably too skilled for this level. Everyone on the team played extremely well, this was the best I’ve ever seen Luka, Vincent, Cedar, Reed and Di. Di was aggressive and had a nice skilled run in an attack. Another parent said “Di is always at the right place and knows how to play”. If they always play like this, the team will do great even without Luis.
